Your stories, your legacy

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. How much do you charge?
It depends on the scope of the project. An oral history - recorded on CD with an accompanying transcript - is the simplest and most affordable option. A full book takes at least 150 hours to produce, and is therefore more expensive. Contact me for my current package prices. Don't see what you want? I can customize a quote to fit your budget and goals.
  2. How long does it take?
Again, each project will be different. A book-length personal history can take as little as four or five months, depending on your availability for interviews and how quickly I receive your feedback after sending you a completed first draft. Smaller projects will take less time. I can provide you with an estimated timeline before you sign a contract.
  3. What if I don't live near you?
Normally I travel to the homes of clients to conduct interviews in person, but interviews can also take place by telephone or on-line through zoom.us. If you have access to a telephone OR to a computer with a built-in microphone and an internet connection, your location doesn't matter.
  1. What can I do to prepare?
I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire before we meet for our first interview. This will give me some background for your project and will help me prepare for our interviews. You can also begin assembling any letters, notes, documents or photos you'd like me to see and/or include in your finished personal or family history.
  2. What do you ask in interviews?
The answers from your questionnaire will give me direction when I prepare questions for our initial and subsequent interviews. The process is meant to be relaxed and enjoyable. I won't steer you into uncomfortable territory against your wishes.
  3. How much control do I have over the finished project?
This is your story, and I never forget it. I want you to be delighted with the finished product, whether it's an oral history on CD, or a custom-designed book. I will consult with you at every stage of the process. You have the final say.
