Red Bird Memoirs
Red Bird Memoirs, personal and family history services
Your stories, your legacy
The Process
As a personal historian and memoir consultant, I can help you preserve your family history for future generations.

Every project is unique, but the process will normally follow these steps:

Free Initial Consultation
Ideally our initial consultation will take place in person, but it can also happen by email, phone, or on-line. We'll discuss the details and scope of what you're looking for, and determine if my services are a good fit.
If you'd like to go ahead, I will follow up with a written contract outlining all pre-agreed fees and services, as well as a payment schedule and a timetable for the project.
Recorded Interviews
We will meet in your home or office for a pre-arranged number of sixty to ninety-minute sessions, scheduled at your convenience. A full life story will normally require a minimum of eight interview hours. Each interview will be digitally recorded on professional equipment, and then transcribed. These sessions are meant to be relaxed and enjoyable. You have the final say over what ends up in your project.
Stories matter. Serving central Vancouver Island and beyond.
First Draft
Your personal history will normally be written in the first person: your story, told in your words. To accomplish this, the printed transcriptions of your interviews are reorganized, shaped, and edited, so that the end product is engaging and well-written but still reflects your voice. The first draft then goes to you for your input. You can add, subtract or change anything you wish. The finished work should reflect your story and your wishes.
Second Draft
The second draft will incorporate any changes or additions you've requested. It will also include scanned copies of the photos or documents you've chosen, and any other elements you'd like in the final document. Once again the second draft will go to you for feedback.
Final Draft and Printing
After making any required changes, I will proofread the entire document and send it to you for approval. We will then finalize your book design and discuss your printing and/or e-book options.
The work is done. You have copies of the finished project in your hands. It's time to share your story with friends and family, and to enjoy the well-deserved attention and praise you receive for your accomplishment.
